More Information

When injuries occur, the area may not heal completely due to lack of proper treatment or poor blood supply. For this reason, ligaments, joints and tendons heal very slowly. If left untreated, damaged ligaments become loose, allowing the joints to move. This may cause pain, arthritis, and instability. Prolotherapy treatments intervene by stabilizing the structures and decreasing the progression of pain, degeneration and aging.

Prolotherapy

This non-surgical procedure relieves chronic pain with an injection that promotes the natural healing of injured tissues and joints. The limited blood supply and poor healing properties of ligaments, cartilage and tendons make treatment necessary after injury.

Prolotherapy treatments consist of injecting a stimulating dextrose solution at the sites of the tissue breakdown, stimulating the body’s own healing mechanism to repair and rebuild. This regenerative process leads to a stronger and more supportive structure. Several treatments are often required, spaced apart by about two to six weeks in order to get the full benefit. Each treatment builds on the previous until the desired outcome is obtained.
