James Ying, MD

Dr. Ying is a board-certified physiatrist with fellowship training in interventional spine and musculoskeletal medicine. His clinical practice focuses on diagnosis and treatment of motor vehicle collision and work-related injuries.

Dr. Ying has extensive training in electrodiagnostic, interventional, and regenerative medicine for the treatment of spine and musculoskeletal disorders. His expertise includes fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided procedures, epidural steroid injection, facet joint injection, radiofrequency ablation, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), intramuscular stimulation (trigger point needling), and vertebral augmentation. He utilizes a combination of patient history, physical examination, electrodiagnostic studies (EMG/NCS), advanced imaging, and other studies as needed to reach the most accurate diagnosis.

Dr. Ying graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in biomedical engineering. He completed medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. After internship at Baylor College of Medicine, he completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatry) at the University of Washington. After residency, he completed further fellowship training in interventional spine at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute. Having lived and trained on the East Coast, the South, and now the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Ying is comfortable interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds and strives to tailor his treatments to their individual needs.

As a physiatrist, Dr. Ying uses an interdisciplinary approach to his patient care with the goal of improving patients’ function and quality of life. Dr. Ying’s philosophy revolves around providing personalized comprehensive care to his patients using the most conservative and least invasive treatment methods. This involves a patient-centered approach to work with a team of physicians, surgeons, physical and occupational therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, mental health providers, and case managers.

Outside of work, Dr. Ying enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing a variety of hobbies including hiking, tennis, soccer, traveling, video gaming, and exploring the Pacific Northwest.
